Appli-Tec Achieves Greater than 98% On-Time Delivery

Many of the new customers who contact us regarding availability of adhesives tell us about the difficulties they’re experiencing in the industrial adhesives space.

One customer, for example, reported a supplier quoted a greater than three-month lead time. Other suppliers deliver on-time 50% to 80% of the time – which wreaks havoc with production schedules and manufacturers’ own on-time delivery metrics.

We used this feedback to review our own metrics and began making several changes in key areas during the pandemic.

Inventory management metric: Focus on shelf-life

After analyzing several years of adhesive orders from existing and new customers, we developed an effective supply chain and inventory management process.

Product shelf-life was an important consideration as well. Once a material’s shelf-life expires, it can no longer be used. The challenge is that shelf-life for various materials differs – from several weeks to a full year.

We now ensure, with very few exceptions, that all materials shipped have 80% or more of shelf-life remaining.

Lead time metric: Two to three weeks

Due to improved inventory management, Appli-Tec lead times for almost all materials have remained under 20 business days on average for the last three years. Generally, we’re able to ship product within three weeks.

We also have raw material stock on hand for the adhesives listed on our website. First time orders may take 15 to 20 days to ship; we’re then typically shipping in 10-15 business days going forward.

Result: Exceeded on-time delivery goal

Due to these and many other changes, Appli-Tec has achieved greater than 98% on-time delivery.

In an industry where materials are routinely discontinued, back-ordered, or shipped “on-time” sometimes, our greater than 98% on-time delivery metric is an achievement of which the entire Appli-Tec team can celebrate. Everyone worked hard.
