Appli-tec Surpasses Industry Standards for Custom Quality Testing

SALEM, N.H. � As companies purchasing adhesives adopt more stringent standards for quality testing and certification, they�re encountering resistance from many of their suppliers, according to Tim Walsh, president of Appli-tec, inc., a leading provider of adhesives, sealants and encapsulants to the computer, medical, military, electronics, aerospace and microelectronics industries.
�They are unable or unwilling to comply,� Walsh said. �However, material validation has always been Appli-tec�s core competency.�
�Not long ago, just a handful of end users required analytical data,� Walsh said. �But as the need for product with more precise specifications and supporting documentation has increased, fewer vendors have been able to meet it.�
Appli-tec performs in-house testing on all of its products and provides a certificate of conformance with every shipped product�at no charge to the customer. Additionally, test reports containing analytical data on particular lots of material are provided by Appli-tec at a cost that is typically 75 to 80% lower than the company�s competitors. Appli-tec�s ability to provide these services to its customers�since its inception�is based on its philosophy of quality and full traceability throughout the manufacturing process.
First, all incoming materials are pre-qualified via FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) scan to confirm their chemical composition. Product testing typically includes verification of the material�s viscosity, lap shear strength, application rate, glass-transition temperature, and hardness to make certain the finished product will function as specified. Visual inspections are also performed to ensure the product is air and contaminant free. Currently, Appli-tec has the capability to perform more than 70 different tests on its products.
Finally, Appli-tec relies upon statistical process control, a data management system that employs statistical probability to set upper and lower control limits, to monitor the effectiveness of its processes and the reliability of its products. So even if our customer does not provide specifications, Appli-tec maintains its own stringent quality standards to ensure consistency from lot to lot.
